Laney College email notification stated:
"The jurors in the Johannes Mehserle trial have reached a verdict. Although we do not anticipate any violence at our facilities, as a precautionary measure to ensure safety of our students and staff, we are going to be cancelling evening classes at Laney College effective 4:00 p.m. today, 07/08/10.
Furthermore, as a precaution, staff at any of the Peralta Colleges or the District Office who feel they need to go home are released as of 4:00 p.m. today, 07/08/10.

Although we do not anticipate any violence at our facilities, as a precautionary measure to ensure safety of our students and staff, we are canceling all evening classes at Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College and Merritt College effective 4:00 p.m. today, 07/08/10.
Furthermore, as a precaution, staff at any of the Peralta Colleges or the District Office are released as of 4:00 p.m. today, 07/08/10.
We will provide an update regarding possible Friday closures.
